“I’m sorry, your prescription isn’t covered under your insurance plan” is what you may have heard as your pharmacist handed back your insurance card. Sometimes they don’t even initially tell you what the price would be without insurance. They know you won’t like the answer. Even worse, you already pay your insurance premiums, and now you must pay full price for your medication as well.
Even if you are covered, your co-pay for certain drugs can still cost hundreds per month. Of course, there is often a generic substitute, but what if that isn’t an option?
